The ICAO Council has adopted a new aircraft carbon dioxide emission standard that will reduce the impact of aviation greenhouse gas emissions on global climate. This standard is contained in Annex 16 of the third edition of the Chicago Convention (Environmental Protection).
The aircraft's carbon dioxide emissions measurement represents the world's first global design certification standard for single-sector management of carbon dioxide emissions. The standard will apply to new aircraft models that will be designed in 2020, as well as aircraft models that were in production during the year 2023.
By 2028, non-compliant production aircraft will no longer be produced unless their designs are fully modified.
